Other Raga structures

Other raga structures are types of melodies that are formed by various permutations and combinations of pentatonic, heptatonic and complete scales using omissions and substitutions. The usual structure consists of a pentatonic/heptatonic ascent and a heptatonic/complete descent.

The essence of the music on both the forms - Hindustani and Carnatic - lies in the improvisation within this given set scale that is now devolved using various permutations and combinations of ascent and descent to convey a complete form of one's understanding of a raga. How one interprets these notes changes the form of the raga for each individual, and the more nuanced the individual, the more nuance is visible in their interpretation of any raga, obviously also subject to the amount of practice.
