The perfect workout for the right brain
While working in an academically demanding field as Urban and Regional Planning, or even just academia in general, it is essential to have both parts of your brain to be equally active, simultaneously being pragmatic/analytical and artistic. Furthermore, it is your art that also gives you your small niche resting place that you can resort to, to have a small escape from daily stresses.
Not to mention that art is usually a healthy form of detoxification of both the mind and the body. Indulgence in these forms of art has also been scientifically proven to have a positive impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.
In this same context: I have my own sweet tooth for music and theater when it comes to art, though both of these styles that I have imbibed are inherently South-Asian in their manifestation and nuance within me, owing to my background and cultural ties to the tradition and nation.
